Paul Nemitz (56) is principal adviser in the EU Commission, Directorate General Justice and Consumer Protection. Previously, he served as Director of Fundamental Rights and Citizenship in the EU Commission from 2011-2017. In this capacity, Nemitz has been the lead director for the reform of EU data protection law, the negotiations on the EU - US Privacy Shield and the Code of Conduct for Combating Incitement and Illegal Hassle on the Internet. Nemitz is a member of the Global Council on Extended Intelligence of the worldwide electrical engineering association IEEE and MIT, Boston; the Board of Trustees of the Leo Baeck Institute, New York; and the board of the association against forgetting - for democracy e. V., Berlin. He teaches as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Law of the European College in Bruges. He is the author of numerous contributions to European law and digitization.
